Even though Windows 8.1 comes with built-in options to disable the top left and top right hot corners, setting the options on the Taskbar Properties Navigation tab disables these features globally, even inside Metro apps.
The on-screen hot corners which open various aspects of the Metro UI can easily be disabled using apps such as Winaero Charms Bar Killer or Classic Shell.
